Preliminary testing results for the 2009-10 school year were released this morning by the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. Under the federal acountability model, eight of 33 schools in Pitt County met adequate yearly progress (AYP) requirements. Under the state ABC growth model, 29 schools made expected growth.
Twelve schools made high growth; 27 schools improved their overall performance composite scores.
“We are so proud of the continued growth of Pitt County students,” said Superintendent Beverly Reep. “Given the budget reductions and class size, this learning demonstrates the commitment of students, staff and our commnity to student learning.”
Thirty-three schools were included in all testing data; K-2 schools were not included. Testing begins in third grade.
As a whole, the district made expected growth under the state model with 68.9 percent of students scoring at or above grade levels, up from last year. The district overall did not meet federal AYP requirements.
Of the six high schools, four made expected growth with one, South Central, making high growth. Farmville Central and J.H. Rose did not make expected growth. All six high schools increased their performance composite score. South Central was also the only high school to make AYP.
The four schools that did not make expected growth under the state ABC model were Farmville Central High School, Belvoir School, J.H. Rose High School and Northwest Elementary.
Overall proficiency percentages ranged from Hope Middle School with 87.6 and Northwest Elementary with 38.8.
Today's results are unofficial. Official results will be released in August.
